Ecosystem Based Planning Links
The Harrop-Procter Community Forest has implemented an ecosystem-based plan provided by SFF, and has developed value-added strategies to expand local employment.

So far, Harrop-Procter has the only community forest in BC with ecosystem-based plans in place.

Fraser Headwaters Alliance

The Fraser Headwaters Alliance is active in the protection of biodiversity and the creation of a sustainable economy throughout the Fraser River Headwaters area.

In 2001, The Silva Forest Foundation and the Fraser Headwaters Alliance released the "Fraser Headwaters Proposed Conservation Plan".


Roy Howard of the Alliance has been nominated for a Canadian Environment Award.

In 2002, Silva and the Innu Nation of Labrador created an ecosystem-based plan covering 8 million hectares, that the Innu have successfully utilized in negotiations with the Newfoundland Forestry Department.

The plan was presented by Peter Penashue, Innu Nation President, at the World Convention on Biological Diversity in The Hague. Peter was named to Canada's "Top 40 Under 40 List" in 2002.

The Cortes Ecoforestry Society is working towards a community forest on Cortes Island, British Columbia.

David Suzuki Foundation
Since 1990, the David Suzuki Foundation has worked to find ways for society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us. The Foundation uses science and education to promote solutions that help conserve nature.

The Taiga Rescue Network is working to support local struggles and strengthen the cooperation between individuals, NGOs and indigenous peoples and nations concerned with the protection, restoration and sustainable use of the world's boreal forests by means that ensure the integrity of natural processes and dynamics.

The Ecoforestry Institute Society in Victoria, British Columbia publishes the journal Ecoforestry, available by subscription. The journal contains excellent articles about the theory and practice of ecoforestry.

The Coast Range Association works in the Northwest Coast Range region of the USA. Their work looks to address the underlying causes to social and environmental problems and seeks to instill common understanding, foster social unity, and porvide practical solutions.

Pacific Environment protects the living environment of the Pacific Rim by strengthening democracy, supporting grassroots activism, empowering communities, and redefining international policies. Silva works with Pacific Environment in the Russian Far East and Siberia.
The Cowichan Community Land Trust Society is dedicated to the conservation and protection of natural areas in and near the Cowichan Valley Regional District, British Columbia, Canada.

The Land Conservancy is a non-profit, charitable Land Trust working throughout British Columbia. TLC protects important habitat for plants, animals and natural communities as well as properties with historical, cultural, scientific, scenic or compatible recreational value.
